Minor Football Final
Hard luck to our Minor footballers and management team of Bobby Cushen, Paul Monaghan and Alan Hogan who lost out to Shamrocks by 3-12 to 1-12 in the Minor B Championship Final on Sunday last in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park. The two sides were matching each other all through the game but Shamrocks 3rd goal in the 40th minute put daylight between the teams for the first time in the game and unfortunately, we were unable to get back level. Congratulations to Shamrocks. K/K got the 1st point of the game with a pointed free from Niall Hogan followed by a brace of Shamrocks points before Eamon Bracken finished to the net in the 7th minute for the game’s 1st goal and K/K led by 1-3 to 0-3 after 15 minutes with Bryan Mullen and another pointed free from Niall Hogan. Shamrocks struck their 1st goal in the 25th minute and that ensured that the sides were level at the break at 1-5 each. K/K started the second half strongly and a brace of points from Cathal Donoghue immediately after the restart put K/K back in front. Shamrocks then had a dominant ten minute spell which turned the game around in which they outscored us by 2-2 to 0-1 to move five points clear. Points from Philip Cooney and Lochlann Kavanagh were matched by Shamrocks as they built up a six point advantage. K/K were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute but Conor Lowry’s shot was well saved by the Shamrocks goalkeeper. The sides swapped the last couple of points with Conor Lowry and Bryan Mullen scoring for K/K as Shamrocks ran out 3-12 to 1-12 winners. Team & Scorers: Steven Rosney, Kevin Daly, Ciaran Moore, Niall Egan, Ronan Mahon, Colm Leonard, Dan Murray, Philip Cooney (0-1), Bryan Mullen (0-3), Lochlann Kavanagh (0-2), Cathal Donoghue (0-2), Niall Hogan (0-3f), Eamon Bracken (1-0), James Kelly, Conor Lowry (0-1). Subs used: Joseph Daly (for R. Mahon, HT), Cathal Kilmartin (for J. Kelly, HT), Oisin Keating (for P. Cooney, 49mins), Eoin Troy (for N. Hogan, 59mins).
