Congratulations to our Senior hurlers and management who have a qualified for the county final against St Rynagh’s on 1st October after a 0-12 to 0-11 win over Belmont on Sunday in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park in terrible weather conditions. K/K got into an early lead of 0-4 to 0-1 after 7 minutes with James Gorman (2), Peter Geraghty and Cillian Kiely all getting scores. Belmont kept in touch and the gap was down to one after 22 minutes – 0-5 to 0-4. K/K stretched ahead again over the remainder of the half to lead by 0-9 to 0-6 at the break and were unlucky not to be further ahead when Conor Mahon’s shot in the last minute flew up and over the bar rather than into the net. Cillian Kiely pushed K/K four ahead immediately after the restart but Belmont began to dominate the game and were back within one – 0-10 to 0-9 midway through the second half and the rain poured down. Belmont pointed a free in the 57th minute to put the sides level and they looked as if they could get the winner but a surging run down the field by Stephen Leonard ended with a pass out to Thomas Geraghty who first time struck the ball over the bar to put K/K back one point ahead. K/K defended tenaciously over the remainder minutes to hold on for a one point win and a place in the county final for the first time since 2014. Team & Scorers: Conor Slevin, Killian Leonard, Ger Healion, Kevin Grogan, Cathal Mahon, Damien Kilmartin, Jordan Quinn, Ciaran Slevin (0-2f), Cillian Kiely (0-3, 1f, 1 ’65), James Gorman (0-2), Conor Mahon (0-1), Peter Geraghty (0-1), Stephen Leonard (0-1), Peter Healion, Thomas Geraghty (0-2). It is with great sadness that we learned on Sunday morning of the death of Fiona McDonald, wife of our clubmate and friend Seamus and mother to their beautiful daughter Katie. Fiona has fought a hard battle with all the selflessness, dignity and kindness that defined her as a person. To Seamus and Katie, the Slattery and McDonald families and their wide circle of friends, we offer our deepest sympathies and support at this difficult time. Léaba í measc na naomh dí go deo. A minute’s silence was held before Sunday’s SHC Semi Final in memory of Fiona. We would also like to express our sincere sympathy to Liam Doolan and family, Ballincloghan, Kilcormac on the death of his brother Sean Doolan who was laid to rest in Clara on Sunday. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh siad.
