Well done to our Senior hurlers and management who are through to the Semi Final of the Championship after a 0-25 to 1-14 Quarter Final victory over Shinrone in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park on Sunday last. K/K got the first couple of points through Conor Mahon and Dan Currams before Shinrone got the next 1-2 unanswered to move ahead. The sides traded the next couple of points and Shinrone led by 1-4 to 0-4 after 17 minutes. K/K then got four of the next five points from Gorman (2), Slevin and Currams to level the game. Shinrone were then back in front before Cillian Kiely got the last score of the half to leave it 1-8 to 0-10 at the interval. K/K started the second half strongly and had moved 0-16 to 1-10 ahead by the 40th minute and it was a lead that they didn’t relinquish as they outscored Shinrone by 0-9 to 0-4 over the remainder of the game to seal a semi final place against Belmont on Sunday week. Team & Scorers: Conor Slevin, Shaun Lowry, Kevin Gorgan, Alan McConville, Cathal Mahon, Damien Kilmartin, Jordan Quinn, Cillian Kiely (0-5, 1f, 1 ’65), Ciaran Slevin (0-5f), James Gorman (0-4), Conor Mahon (0-2), Peter Geraghty (0-2), Dan Currams (0-4), Peter Healion, Stephen Leonard (0-3). Subs used: Enda Grogan (for K. Grogan, 12mins inj), Killian Leonard (for S. Lowry, 42mins).
Hard luck to our Intermediate hurlers and management who exited the championship after a 3-17 to 2-14 defeat to Brosna Gaels in the Quarter Final on Saturday evening in Moystown. Brosna Gaels got their first goal of the game in the fifth minute and led by 1-2 to 0-2 after ten minutes. Points from Brian Mahon, Mikey Ryan and Conor Quinn reduced the gap to one – 1-3 to 0-5 after 17 minutes but a strong ten minute spell from Brosna Gaels in which they scored 2-5 left K/K with a mountain to climb. Conor Quinn got the last point of the half to leave it 3-8 to 0-6 at the break. K/K got the perfect start to the 2nd half when Shane Guinan got in for a goal and points followed from Mikey Ryan and Trevor Fletcher reduced the gap to six. Shane Guinan got his 2nd goal in the 50th minute to leave it 3-13 to 2-11 but unfortunately K/K couldn’t reduce the deficit any further as Brosna Gaels ran out six point winners. Team & Scorers: Mark Gleeson, Mark Leonard, Chris Guinan, Cathal Gath, Mikey Ryan (0-3f), Kevin Coyne, Alan Spain, Shane Melia, Rodge Deegan, Brian Mahon (0-1), James Geraghty (0-1), Karl Guinan (0-1), Conor Quinn (0-3f), Shane Guinan (2-1), Dylan Young. Subs used: Owen Dunne (for A. Spain, HT), Dylan Leonard (for S. Melia, HT), Trevor Fletcher (0-4f) (for D. Young, HT), Conor Lowry (for R. Deegan, 41mins), Joey Lynch (for C. Quinn, 54mins).
Hard luck to our U14 football panel and management who bowed out of the Championship after a hard-fought 3-9 to 4-4 defeat to Ferbane in the Semi Final in Cloghan on Monday last. Ferbane/Belmont got the best start and were 1-2 to 0-0 ahead before Alex Kavanagh got K/K’s first goal. Points from Jack Scully, Charlie Mitchell and Daniel Hand all followed but a second F/B goal left them 2-5 to 1-3 ahead at the break. Another strong start to the second half for F/B saw them move score another 1-3 without reply to move 3-8 to 1-3 ahead. Our lads deserve great credit as they battled back and came within a whisker of winning as they hit three goals in the last fifteen minutes but F/B held on for the two point win. Team & Scorers: Niall Hogan (1-0pen), Oisin Kilmartin, Charlie Bracken, Jack Scully (0-2), William Commins, Charlie Mitchell (2-1), Padraig Kilmartin, Cathal Byrne, Robert Boland, Daniel Hand (0-1), Alex Kavanagh (1-0), Daniel Coughlan, Enda Leonard. Subs used: Colin Spain, Ryan Hannon.
