U16A Football
Hard luck to our U16 football panel and management who bowed out of the Championship after a hard-fought 3-10 to 3-7 defeat to Tullamore in O’Connor Park on Monday last. K/K got a great start with a goal from Jimmy Kavanagh after just 3 minutes but Tullamore dominated the remainder of the first quarter and moved 0-5 to 1-0 ahead after 15 minutes. Tullamore got their first goal of the game in the 20th minute either side of a point from Cathal Kiely and a brace from Oisin Keating to lead by 1-5 to 1-3 with just under five minutes to go to half time. A strong finish to the half from Tullamore saw them score 2 goals in 2 minutes and led by 3-5 to 1-4 at the break. K/K started the second half with points from Cathal Kiely and Eoin Gleeson to close the gap to five. Tullamore then scored four points in as many minutes to move 3-9 to 1-6 ahead and looked to have pulled away but our lads deserve great credit as they kept battling away and a goal from Eoin Gleeson reduced the gap to six. A penalty from Oisin Keating was well saved by the Tullamore goalkeeper before Jimmy Kavanagh got his 2nd and K/K’s 3rd goal to leave it 3-10 to 3-7 as the clock ticked down and K/K pressed hard for the equalising goal but it was not to be. Team & Scorers: Conor Bracken, Shane Mulrooney, Cathal Kilmartin, Sean Kilmartin, Conor Ryan, Colm Leonard, Dan Gleeson, Cathal Donoghue (0-1), Dan Murray, Niall Hogan, Cathal Kiely (0-2), Oisin Keating (0-3, 1f), Jack Screeney, Eoin Gleeson (1-1), Jimmy Kavanagh (2-0). Subs used: Sean Buckley (for J. Kavanagh, blood sub, 22mins), Ryan Hannon (for C. Bracken, 28mins), Jimmy Kavanagh (for S. Buckley, HT)

U14A Hurling
Hard luck to our U14 hurlers who lost their last group game of the championship losing out by 4-14 to 0-9 to Birr on Wednesday last. Birr got off to a fast start and led by 2-2 scored before Adam Screeney got K/K’s first point. Birr continued to dominate and led by 3-7 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. Adam Screeney and Daniel Coughlan got the last two points of the half as Birr led 3-7 to 0-4 at the break. It was a lead that Birr maintained throughout the second half with Daniel Coughlan and Daniel Hand scoring the points for K/K. Birr struck their fourth goal with the last puck of the game for a 4-14 to 0-9 win. It was our first defeat of the championship and our lads will have a chance to bounce back with a semi final to look forward to in the coming weeks. Team & Scorers: Brecon Kavanagh, Oisin Kilmartin, Jack Scully, Scott Bradley, Robert Boland, Charlie Mitchell, Daniel Hand (0-2), Colin Spain, Charlie Bracken, Ryan Hannon, James Bracken, Leigh Kavanagh, Alex Kavanagh, Daniel Coughlan (0-5f), Adam Screeney (0-2, 1f). Subs used: James Mahon (for L. Kavanagh), Diarmuid Bracken (for A. Kavanagh), Ter Guinan (for S. Bradley), Aaron O’Kelly (for T. Guinan, inj.), Cathal Byrne (for A. Screeney).
