Junior Hurling
Hard luck to our Junior B hurling panel and management who lost out to Brosna Gaels by 1-12 to 1-9 in the Championship Final on Saturday evening in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park, Tullamore. K/K got the better start with points from Sean Daly and Paul Commins to go 0-2 to 0-0 ahead after six minutes but Brosna Gaels were the better team for the rest of the half and scored the next eight points in a row before Commins got his 2nd to leave it 0-8 to 0-3 at the break. K/K got a flying start to the 2nd half when Paul Commins finished to the net and a Colm Cassidy free either side of a Brosna Gaels point left the gap at two points. However in the 36th minute Brosna Gaels found the net themselves and followed it up with a point to move 1-10 to 1-4 ahead but our lads deserve great credit as they continued to battle hard for the remainder of the game and nearly got it level at the end. Brosna Gaels were 1-12 to 1-6 ahead with 15 minutes to go but K/K held them scoreless for the remainder of the game as two long range frees from Colm Cassidy and another from Daithi Guinan left just a goal between them as the clock ticked down. K/K continued to press hard late on and did have a chance to level it but Kevin Daly’s shot was saved and Brosna Gaels held on. Well done to all our lads for their great effort and commitment all year and Congratulations to Brosna Gaels. Team & Scorers: Stephen Byrne, Alan Conroy, Paul Guinan, Peter Grogan, Daithi Guinan (0-1), Colm Cassidy (0-4, 3f), Kevin Ryan, Joe Mahon, Kevin Rigney, Sean Daly (0-1), Barry Gorman, Eoin Gorman, Paul Leonard, Paul Commins (1-3), Micheál Guinan. Subs used: Joe Daly (for B. Gorman inj, 17mins), Kevin Daly (for M. Guinan, 28mins), Donal Rigney (for S. Byrne, HT), David Gleeson (for E. Gorman, 36mins), Damien Cassidy (for K. Ryan, 50mins)

Senior Hurling
Well done to our Senior hurling panel and management who made it 5 wins from 5 in their group with a 0-26 to 0-16 win over Birr in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park, Tullamore on Saturday evening. They will now play Shinrone in the Quarter Final with fixture details TBC. Birr got off to a good start and led by 0-3 to 0-0 after 6 minutes but K/K then dominated the rest of the half outscoring their opponents by 0-15 to 0-2. K/K fired over seven points in a row from the 7th to the 17th minute to move 0-7 to 0-3 ahead with Cillian Kiely (4), Ciaran Slevin (2) and Dan Currams getting the scores. Birr got the next point of the game to reduce the gap to three but that was to be as close as it was to get for the day as Conor Mahon, Stephen Leonard, James Gorman and Ciaran Slevin all pointed within the space of four minutes to leave it 0-11 to 0-4. K/K then lost Kevin Grogan to injury in the 26th minute and he was replaced by James Kilmartin. Birr got their fifth point at this stage but four points in the latter stages of the half left K/K 0-15 to 0-5 ahead at half time. A brace each from James Gorman and Ciaran Slevin and a point from Dan Currams extended the advantage to 0-20 to 0-8 in the 40th minute. Further points from Kiely, Currams, Leonard and Slevin left it 0-24 to 0-8 with 10 minutes to go but Birr finished the half strongly and outscored K/K by 0-8 to 0-2 as Ciaran Slevin’s free was the last score of the game as K/K secured the victory. Team & Scorers: Conor Slevin, Shaun Lowry, Kevin Grogan, Killian Leonard, Óisin Mahon, Damien Kilmartin, Jordan Quinn, Ciaran Slevin (0-8, 5f), Cillian Kiely (0-5, 3f, 1 ’65), James Gorman (0-4), Peter Healion, Conor Mahon (0-1), Stephen Leonard (0-3), Ger Healion, Dan Currams (0-4). It was with profound sadness and shock that our parish learned of the untimely passing of Daniel Delaney, Monasterevin and Kilcormac following an accident last Monday. Daniel’s father John is part of the management team with our Junior Hurlers this year and a minute’s silence was observed before the Junior B Final on Saturday in memory of Daniel. A committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday last was postponed as a mark of respect also. Kilcormac/Killoughey GAA Club extends our sincere sympathy to his parents John and Brigid, sisters Amy and Anna and extended Delaney and Ryan families. We would also like to express our sincere sympathy to Caroline Buckley, Blueball, Mary Lynch, Ballywilliam and the Malone family on the death of Owen Malone, The Island, Ballycumber and to the Dunne family on the death of Noel Dunne, Roscore, Blueball. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh siad.
