U16 Hurling League Final
Hard luck to our U16 hurlers and management who lost out to Ferbane/Belmont by 3-16 to 1-18 after extra time on Sunday in Kilcormac after another super effort and exciting game. The sides traded scores throughout the early stages and K/K were ahead by 0-6 to 0-4 after 15 minutes but Ferbane/Belmont finished the half the strongest and went in leading by 1-8 to 0-7 at the break with Dan Murray, Eoin Gleeson, Lochlann Kavanagh and Cathal Kiely all on the scoresheet for K/K. Cathal Kiely moved into the forward line in the second half and scored a number of points and his goal in the 41st minute had K/K 1-12 to 1-11 ahead before Ferbane/Belmont replied instantly at the far end with their second goal. K/K scored the next three points to move 1 ahead again before Ferbane/Belmont equalised and the sides could not be separated in normal time as it finished 1-17 to 2-14. The first half of extra time remained tight as scores were hard to come by and Ferbane/Belmont’s pointed free was the only score of the half and they led by 2-15 to 1-17 at half time in extra time. Ferbane/Belmont struck their third goal in the second half of the extra time and unfortunately for K/K, it was a lead that couldn’t be hauled back and Ferbane/Belmont ran out four point winners. Well done to all the lads on a very successful year and they still have a Leinster League Final to look forward to which will probably take place in the new year. Team & Scorers: Daniel Gleeson, Eoin Kilmartin, Eoin Troy, Eamon Bracken, Shane Mulrooney, Cathal Kiely (1-11, 0-6f), Cathal Kilmartin, Cathal Donoghue, Daniel Conway, Eoin Gleeson (0-2), Aaron Hannon, Stephen Cooney, Dan Murray (0-3), Lochlann Kavanagh (0-2), Dominic Feighery. Subs used: Colm Leonard (for D. Feighery), Niall Hogan (for S. Cooney). Stephen Cooney (for L. Kavanagh, inj).
